Fernando Serra:
I'm Fernando Serra. I actually grew up in the area. My father was a general surgeon in Leesburg, and so I had a wonderful childhood here, and then I followed my dad's footsteps. I came back home in 1998 to start my practice, Central Florida Plastic Surgery. It was just going to be a smaller rural practice, but it became this big city practice because of the thriving economy from all the baby boomers, retirees that are relocating here.

I am a board certified plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a designation that I'm worked very hard to achieve and I'm very proud to represent our society. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, I am qualified and trained to do aesthetic surgery of the total body, so certainly face rejuvenation procedures is very common, especially with our baby boomer population that have retired here in the villages.

We still are very active with breast and body contouring turn as well. The aesthetic breasts procedures include breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction. A removal of ruptured silicone gel implants is also very popular. Regarding body contouring, certainly abdominoplasty plasty or tummy tuck, Laserlipolisi or Smartlipo, and arm lifts and thigh lifts. And also patients who have lost a lot of weight after gastric bypass surgery, we call those massive weight loss patients. And so those are also common cases that we do are here in our practice.

I feel like we're a small specialty boutique. It's me and then my office manager, Joy, and my surgical first assist, [Rosalynn 00:00:01:40]. And so we're not volume-driven but just one patient at a time, and just administering quality care.

When I look at patients, it's not so much chronological age, but physiologic age. I have patients in their 60, 70s, and even 80s who are just in fantastic shape. So proper patient selection is a very important part of our practice as well.

My patients are very active. They want to look on the outside the way they feel on the inside, and so plastic surgery is awesome. What I do for a living, whether it's injectables, Botox or fillers, minimally invasive procedures, to the more traditional plastic surgical procedures, we can certainly make people feel better about themselves and make a big difference.

I'm originally from New York. My age is 69. I'm a driver for Cardinal Health. I have been in a bad car accident when I was younger and my scars started to deepen as I grew older, along with the wrinkles and so forth. My original research was started in Orlando and I started looking at plastic surgeons in the area. I wasn't happy with what I found there. I found they're very expensive only because they were in Orlando, so I started moving up towards the north. I was most comfortable with Dr. Serra, and Dr. Serra treated me like a person, a patient that he really cared about. When I got to Dr. Serra, I realized that I wanted to see how he did as far as Botox was concerned. So I tried the Botox first to get a feel of how he treated his patients and I was very happy with the way he treated me as a patient.

I've always wanted to look good. I've always wanted to try to fight age as much as I could. At that time, my neck was starting to drop and the sides of my face and the jowls were starting to drop along with the deep creases from my car accident. He did a mini facelift and neck lift for me and he was able to correct all of that. There was very little to be seen after 10 days and if anything goes wrong or you feel that something's wrong, you can call him directly. They're very friendly here. They make you feel family oriented. They make sure that you know everything before you go ahead and do it, and that includes the pictures, that includes all the medicines that you're going to be taking. I think men in general think that it's a man thing, that when you get older, you know you're supposed to look this way or look that way. I don't feel that way. I just try to fight age any way I can, and if I were to say anything to anybody, come and talk to Dr. Serra, he'll make you feel at home, he'll make you feel at ease and he'll take care of the whole thing for you. It's nothing to worry about.

Well, I grew up in Michigan in the Detroit area. I moved to the villages 20 years ago. I first contacted Dr Serra when I was interested in having some liposuction done, and that worked out really well for me, so when I decided my arms needed some work, I contacted Dr Serra again. Dr Serra's attitude is so positive and it's not just, okay, let me look and see what you want me to do. He looks at the whole person. Dr Serra is very personable. You really don't find doctors that spend more than two minutes with you for any reason. He gives you all the time that you need. You can ask all the questions you want and he's right there with the answers. He told me what I could see, what he could do. He said I've got excellent skin, it heals well. So he felt that he could do a really good job on my arms.
Karen:
And the hospital that he uses to do the surgery is excellent. The staff there were phenomenal for both pre and post op care. It was the delightful. I can't say I had any pain. It was a little uncomfortable, but I didn't need any pain medication. I was up in about right afterwards, and it was easy. It was just a very easy surgery. Everybody couldn't believe how wonderful my arms looked even a couple of days after surgery. Doing my arms, it's given me confidence to wear sleeveless shirts that I basically hesitated about because of the wings. And I think 99% of all women will admit they don't like what they see when they look at their arms. So why not? Why not?

I previously lived in Inverness which is a small town south of Ocala and I relocated because I wanted to start a new life out here near the villages. My boyfriend Chris did all the research and he found Dr. Serra. I thought, "You go first. You be the Guinea pig." And then I followed after. He's been coming to Dr. Serra for Botox for a while. Chris was very pleased with it and we just decided that we didn't want to get old looking. Because the ages we are doesn't mean we have to look old.

When I came for consultation I spoke with Dr. Serra himself. He explained everything. I told him what I wanted and he explained everything to me, the procedure. He was very accommodating. I previously have lost over 50 pounds so I had a lot of skin around my neck and I had my jowls done. And I had my neck done. The recovery was very simple. Everything went well for me, extremely well. I mean I was up and running a couple hours later actually. It didn't stop me from doing any of my day to day activities.

The feedback from everyone that I was in contact with because of being so heavy before and they could see it was visible, you could see the jowls in the skin. Everyone was like, "Wow." Everyone was, "You look great." I'm like, "Go see Dr. Serra. He was my surgeon and he's fabulous and he'll make you feel so comfortable." As time goes on when I see other parts and pieces falling apart I'll be back. I'll definitely be back to see Dr. Serra.
